There were various motives for commencing the project. I wanted to photograph Ireland as one might find it on an ordinary day. Not in the best light, nor the most scenic locations, nor at the best times of the year. Just as a local might see it, or a visitor who hasn't picked the best week to visit.

It is also an attempt to push myself to photograph subjects I might normally avoid. To that extent it is perhaps an exploration of my relationship to and beliefs about my native country. What I choose to point a camera at, the moments when I press the shutter - consciously or unconsciously, these things are influenced by the sum of my connections to this island.

Technical bits

The numbers across the top link to counties already visited. Clicking one brings up the photo set for that county. The numbers down the side index the photos for a given county. The "m" link (bottom right) shows the position the photo was taken from in Google Maps. The "t" link shows or hides the text associated with a photo, if there is any. There are no forward and back buttons because the order is not significant, and there are no thumbnails because I don't like thumbnails.
