Day 3, Hidden Valley
I called it a day at Monea Castle a little after sunset and put my camera in the boot. I switched on the car GPS and told it to take me home, which is sometimes works and sometimes leads to a magical mystery tour.
Five minutes later the GPS was telling me to head down a *very* small road and I was feeling sceptical. Especially when it added that there would be no turns for next 18km. What? And lo and behold, I found myself in Switzerland, just as Praeger describes in The Way That I Went. A tiny hidden valley of miniature alps and alpine pastures. And when the valley opened out, an incredible view across Fermanagh and Leitrim to Sligo and Ben Bulben, with barely a house to be seen. Magical.
